What is it: Permutation is the number of different ways in which objects can be arranged in order. Combinations is the number of different ways in which objects can be arranged without regard to order.
Where to use it: Permutation is used where the order is important and Combination is used where the order is not of a consequence. How to use it: In a Permutation, each item appears only once. The number of permutations of n distinct objects is n! (expressed as n factorial). Combinations are used to tell how many unique ways you can arrange n objects taking them in groups of r objects at a time, where r is a positive integer less than or equal to n.
