What is it: Multiple Regression allows the simultaneous testing and modelling of multiple independent variables, i.e. more than one variable is used to predict the criterion.
Why use it: Simple regression is limited to examining the relationship between a dependent variable and only one variable. If more than one independent variable is involved in the relationship, than we need to use a Multiple Regression to solve.
