What is it: The Design For 6 Sigma (DFSS) is the application of a series of tools during the design and product development activities.
These tools enable both simple and complex failure modes in system, sub-system and component levels. To be considered and prioritised for further actions.
Why use it: DFSS is to establish a robust series of processes and procedures for the assurance of quality during the design and development phases of a project and associated manufacturing process realisation activities. Where to use it: During product development. When to use it: When DFSS is used the traditional cost of rectification of errors is moved to the design and development phases and as the value added is less the rolled up cost are lower as well. The techniques set out in the process enable this by the use of structured tools and as this is now done earlier in the design process then the risks to the final product are greatly reduced. How to use it: The DFSS template package will proceed through all critical aspects of the design phase of the product development.
